100th Day of School

Science:  How high will the water rise in the jar if 100 drops are added?  Students made predictions, experimented and then recorded their results.
Scavenger Hunt:  Students hunted for 100 Hershy Kisses with a number from 1-100 printed on the bottom.
After finding one, students had to place them in the appropriate space on the100 chart.
Trail Mix:   Students learned that ten groups of ten items equals 100 pieces in their trail mix baggies.
Sharing:   Students shared their 100th Day projects with the class.
Aged 93 years overnight, these students dressed how they may look at 100 years of age.

BINGO

To celebrate reaching our reading goals, we played BINGO and won some really cool prizes!  500,000 words read!   Half way to 1 million!  Keep on reading!

Adventures in Reading! Learning all about the setting and characters in the stories we read.

In our Reading Adventures unit, we are learning all about keeping track of when and where stories take place.  We are also studying the characters in our stories very carefully.
Partner reading is a very important part of our Reader's Workshop.  After independent reading, patters share what they have practiced and learned as a reader.
Readers share clues about the characters in their books with one another.

Persuasive Writing Unit

In our persuasive writing unit, students wrote about the best part of their collections.  They had to decide which item was the best and explain reasons why it was better than the others.
Students ordered their collections from first to fifth place.  They each talked with a partner to explain the reasons for the order of their collections.

Force of Motion

Students used the force of a pulled back rubber band between two pencils to make the car move without touching it. They measured how far the car traveled.

Non-fiction Publishing Celebration

Writers celebrated the end of our non-fiction unit by reading each other's published pieces and writing notes of admiration to one another.
